Problems When Upgrading/Installing Windows 10

Windows 10 has been released on July 29 this year. We can have the upgrade from windows 7 and 8 for free. In order to have this upgrade it’s not easy. There are some problems that you might face during the upgrade or after.

The very first problem that come when i was upgrading windows is that windows update cannot complete the upgrade process event though the download has already completed. The solution is to update the registry below.

Fix for Windows Update Installation Failure 80240020
Registry solution:

  1. Locate the registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade]

  2. It should exist, but if not, create it.

  3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value with Name = “AllowOSUpgrade” (without the quotes), and set the Value = 0x00000001.

The next problem that come after upgrading windows 10 is that Runtime Broker application using too much CPU. For this problem the best solution is by disabling the Runtime Broker service from registry.

Disable Time Broker
In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker. Select the Start value in the right-hand pane and set its value to 4.
